Vogels is right on with Once More: Polling does not Scale. However... it sure is easy to implement, and 'controlled polling' will help get things to move up one order of magnitude. What about controlled polling with a chain of caching services providing multi-layer fan-out? How far could that go? Or is that equivalent to using a 'neighbor'?
